Aspirations of homeownership remain strong, but an increasing percentage of consumers with student loan debt worry about their homeownership future.
89% of adults say that homeownership is an important part of the American Dream
In 2016, 30% of adults knew someone who delayed the purchase of a home because of their student loan debt burden.

- 2015 – 28%
- 2016 – 30%
-Up from 28% in 2015 and 24% in 2014
Of those with student loan debt, 53% said that the debt was “somewhat or very much” an obstacle to homeownership
- 2014 – 49%
- 2015 – 57%

-A slight improvement from 57% in 2015, but up from 49% in 2014
